To mark 3 months since The Hollows was published, I wanted to share with you a short story I wrote, called The Lighthouse Keeper.
I wrote it almost a year ago while recovering from a major accident that left me unable to walk for months. I was stuck on the couch, rendered completely useless, while The Hollows was being edited leaving me nothing to do. It was driving me insane until my dear wife in her wisdom suggested that I write something new — anything at all. The Lighthouse Keeper is the result.
The inspiration came from a lighthouse visible from the window of the house we were living in at the time, on a remote island four kilometres offshore. From the couch, I would stare at it and think back to the lonely days of the lighthouse keepers who would be out there for years on end, protecting sailors who they’d never meet from wrecking against the rocks. In my imagination, the solitary life seemed unbearable, and I began to think how it could possibly be worse…

Wonderfully written. Found myself wanting more at the end!
Thoroughly enjoyable. Great characters.
It takes a lot of writing talent to take readers on such an emotional rollercoaster in so few words. Brilliant - well done!
