Southern Queensland, 1888

Squatter Jack Thomas has long dreamt of riches: of a grand house full of servants and a life of comfort and luxury. So when he finds a nugget of gold on land they don't yet own, he is faced with a difficult choice: listen to his older brother Bill and forget he ever found it? Or follow his heart and sell it... and lose everything along the way.

I could not put this book down, loved the pace, the characters and the poetic writing within harsh setting was refreshing. Can’t wait for the sequel

The world of our pioneering ancestors was a harsh, unfair place, with no guarantee that the hard work and privations they endured would eventually pay dividends. The Hollows is a satisfying blending of the historical context, with greed for power, and riches. Adding a lust for vengeance and a chance to reclaim a lost love makes for a rollicking good yarn.

I could not book this novel down, completing the read in one day! The characters jump out at you and the settings are real and accurate. I live near these settings and my family has lived in the area for generations being original settlers so I can vouch for this accuracy. The story is multi-faceted that is cleverly woven and climaxed in a way that leaves the reader happy with its ending. Well done Foster I cannot wait for your next masterpiece.

The Australian ‘western’ is such an enjoyable genre. Character and setting development were really well laid out. Enjoyed the plot, an enjoyable read with a fun build up of suspense.

This book isn't my usual genre, but I'm so glad I decided to give it a crack. What a brilliant story, great characters, and at times, I felt I was there.
